Cultivating an Interest in Science

In St. Louis, the Gateway Region Y is proud to partner with the Monsanto Fund to offer the Monsanto “Science Gone Mad” program to allow youth, like Kanaay'a, to grow their interest and love of science. One of the YMCA’s 2015 summer camps was the Riverview Gardens camp.

This free summer camp hosted approximately 65 campers per week, offering fun-filled activities and programs related to science and math and literacy through reading and journaling. Students completed a community service project which culminated in a Science Expo, where they shared their science experiment projects.

“We are so grateful for the support of the Monsanto Fund for making science cool for our campers,” said Wendy Cornett-Marquitz, SR. VP of Association Advancement with the Gateway Region Y. “Through resources utilized through the Monsanto "Science Gone Mad" program, we were able to incorporate a STEM-based component for our campers. You can see the joy and the enthusiasm in Kanaay'a, and we were privileged to witness light-bulb moments like this all summer long.”
